Do I need a referral to book an appointment?No you dont need a referral. Your GP, Midwife or Gynaecologist may refer you to our services but you can book an appointment without a referral either direct through the website or complete a contact form and we will get in touch to book you in.

I am unsure if I have an ACC Claim, What should I do?If you haven't heard from ACC via text or email with a claim number your claim may not be registered. You can still book an ACC initial appointment with us and if you have a valid claim we can register it for you during your appointment.

What is a maternal birth injury?If you gave birth on or after the 1st of October 2022 ACC may provide cover if you sustained a birthing injury. You can find full details of what is covered here; If you are still unsure, please complete our contact form and we can discuss if you are likely to be granted ACC cover for your birth injury.

I have never given birth, is Women's Health Physiotherapy for me?Yes! We all have a pelvis and a pelvic floor. Regardless of if you have given birth or not you can still experience unwanted and embarassing symptoms that are related to your pelvic floor and or your pelvic organs.

Can I bring someone to my appointment?Yes, of course. If you would like a support person to attend your appointment with you, they are most welcome. Children and babies are also welcome.

What conditions do pelvic health physiotherapists treat?Pelvic health physiotherapists treat a range of conditions including urinary and faecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain, sexual dysfunction, pre- and postnatal pain and diastasis recti. Pelvic Health Physiotherapists can assits you preparing for birth, the post- partum recovery and returing to exercise. They also help with bowel management including constipation and conditions related to pelvic floor dysfunction.

What should I expect during my first visit?During your first visit, the physiotherapist will conduct a thorough assessment. This includes discussing your medical history, symptoms, and goals. They may perform a physical examination, which can include checking your posture, pelvic floor muscles, and other related areas. The goal is to develop a personalized treatment plan. The initial appointment lasts 1 hour and you are welcome to bring a support person with you.

Can pelvic health physiotherapy help with pregnancy and postpartum recovery?Yes, pelvic health physiotherapists can help with pregnancy-related issues like pelvic girdle pain, back pain, and preparation for childbirth. Postpartum, they assist with recovery from childbirth, treating conditions like diastasis recti, incontinence, and pelvic pain.

Are pelvic floor exercises the same as Kegels?Kegels are a type of pelvic floor exercise, but pelvic health physiotherapists teach a variety of exercises and techniques tailored to your specific needs. They ensure you are performing the exercises correctly and effectively.
